My name is
Dr. Meg Brown
and I research climate resilience, gender, and health.
My friends call me Bee :)
I'm a postdoctoral fellow at
UC Berkeley's Bixby Center.
Thanks to a partnership with Pathfinder International, I'm part of Pathfinder's Women-Led Climate Resilience team. We're working to strengthen climate resilience through locally-led, gender-integrated projects that address health, equity, and local climate solutions.
Want to be part of the solution? I wrote a Solutions Guide on Climate, Gender, and Health, which we launched at COP27.
When it comes to climate, what we do matters,
but so does how we do it.
My Fulbright-funded doctoral research looked at connections between reforestation and community resilience in Costa Rica.
Reforestation is really about rebuilding communities: forests are home to people, plants, animals, and all kinds of living things we might miss if we don't know how to look for them. In doing the work of reforestation, we can not only restore ecosystems but also rebuild our relationships with forest communities - if we do it right.
This practice of paying attention, learning from each other, and making small adjustments to better care for each other is what resilience is all about.
That's why
I'm a climate optimist.
I believe that if we work together, we can build a future that is healthier, more just, and more resilient.
I strive to do work that is intersectional, participatory, feminist, and decolonial. When I say that, I mean that when we recognize our differences, listen to and account for each other, and push back against systems and structures that harm and hold us back, we open up abundant possibilities for doing the work better.
Let's take action on climate together.
